Gov. McKee to discuss internal review of Slater Hospital

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE)- Gov. Dan McKee will discuss an internal review of Eleanor Slater Hospital on Wednesday.
Gov. McKee will hold a press conference at noon with Richard Charest, director of the Department of Behavioral Health, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals, and Womazatta Jones, secretary of the Executive Office of Health and Human Services.
Jones reviewed departmental policy, operations, staffing and standards of care at Eleanor Slater, under the governor’s direction.
The hospital has campuses in Cranston and Burrillville, where patients with mental health conditions and long term illnesses are treated.
Wednesday’s news conference comes on the heels of a report last week highlighting the problems at the hospital.
The report found that services at the hospital were provided in a way and in an environment that threatened health and safety.
Eleanor Slater’s interim CEO, Jennifer White, was placed on administrative leave. The chief medical officer, Dr. Brian Daly, is resigning at the end of July.
