WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) – With a couple of suitcases, and no hesitations, Susan Roberts is prepped to head to Texas to help Harvey victims.
She and nine other local volunteers from the Red Cross were trained and cleared for deployment.
But it is the emotional impact — seeing the devastation for the people of Texas — that she is most worried about.
Roberts will be staying in shelters, most likely sleeping in a cot alongside other volunteers and even displaced residents. In fact, just getting there will be a challenge.
The Rhode Island Red Cross is also sending an emergency response vehicle that will hit the road Tuesday, headed for Texas filled with food and supplies for those affected.
You can also donate to the Red Cross relief efforts. To give $10, simply text “Harvey” to 90999.
The charity will then ask for your zip code to confirm your donation or you can go to Red Cross.org and make a contribution there including larger amounts.
You can also donate through Apple’s iTunes, in amounts ranging from five to $200. Apple says it will donate 100% of the money to the American Red Cross.
Apple has had similar donation campaigns for other natural disasters.
