REHOBOTH, Mass. (WLNE) – One man is dead and three more injured after two cars collided Friday morning on Winthrop Street in Rehoboth.

Witnesses say one of the victims was an infant.

“Upon arrival, officers found two vehicles severely damaged,” said Sgt. Norman Todd of the Rehoboth Police Department.

It was just before 8 A.M Friday when the accident happened.

“Crashing – so loud you could hear it through our house!” said witness Margie Lee Rees.

Witnesses told ABC 6 they believe the driver had had a medical emergency which led to the crash.

His car slammed into another SUV which ended up getting pushed backwards through the parking lot of an insurance agency, taking out a railing, and going over a wall. The car ended up against a back fence.

“I heard the bang and I came to the door and I saw a car literally flying backwards through the parking lot,” said witness Doreen White, who was working inside. She rushed outside to help.

“When I came out I heard a baby screaming in the back seat, so I was horrified but the baby I think is going to be okay,” said White. “Mom I think is going to be okay.”

Police did confirm the driver that died did lose consciousness before the crash.

“She thought the vehicle was going to turn,” said White. “And it ended up going on her side of the road and hit her head on.”

His passenger went to Rhode Island hospital with serious injuries.

“It wasn’t good,” said Lee Rees. “Everybody needs to pray.”

The road was shut down for more than two hours Friday morning.

Police have not released the identities of the victims.
