NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Retired Rhode Island State Police Major David Tikoian will officially take office Tuesday as North Providence’s new police chief.
Tikoian will be taking over for Acting Chief Chris Pelagio who was suspended for an altercation with a Cranston Police officer back in July.
ABC6 News sat down with Tikoian last week where he said he is looking forward to moving the department past the incident.
“In the short-term, we have the availability for state accreditation in Rhode Island, and I think we’re — North Providence is farther along than people think,” said North Providence Police Chief, Tikoian.
Mayor Charles Lombardi has not said whether or not the altercation played a role in replacing Pelagio.
Tikoian’s swearing in ceremony will take place 6 p.m. Tuesday tonight.
