WESTPORT, Mass. (WLNE) — Rough surf as a result of Hurricane Gert is shutting down some area beaches to swimmers.
Thus far, Horseneck Beach and Cherry and Webb Beach in Westport have been closed in hopes of deterring swimmers.
The Town of Westport made the announcement Tuesday night to close both those beaches because of the treacherous conditions.
Other beaches that could see closures would be in Westerly, Cape Cod, and other south facing areas because of the life threatening conditions of the surf.
Swimmers and boaters are asked to take precaution on the water through Wednesday evening.
ABC6 News will continue to update you on any more beach closures and continue to track Hurricane Gert on air and online.
