Man struck by train in Providence, cause unknown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A man is in serious condition after he was struck by a train in Providence Saturday morning, police say.

Providence Police and Fire responded to a call for a person was struck by an Amtrak train near 81 Pilsudski St. in Providence around 7 a.m. Saturday.

The 26-year-old victim was found conscious and alert on the scene, and was immediately transported to Rhode Island Hospital. He is expected to live.

Police say the cause of this accident is unclear, because the victim may have told conflicting stories to first-responders.

The incident is still under investigating by local authorities and Amtrak police, and is being treated as non-intentional.

Amtrak spokesperson Marc Magliari confirmed this incident was not fatal. No passengers or crew members on the train were injured. Delays were reported, but were cleared by the early afternoon, Magliari said.
