Last-minute holiday shoppers hit stores

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Holiday shoppers flocked to Kohl’s Tuesday morning hoping to find some deals.

The store has been open around-the-clock for days.

“Twenty–four hours, no traffic, I could be in and out, and the bargains are great,” said Dennis Dixon of Cranston.

Others mainly aimed to avoid crowds.

“I came here yesterday, the lines went to the back of the store,” said Chris Ruzzo of West Warwick. “So I said, I’ll wait, come here after work, and beat the crowds.”

Some customers say they’d prefer shop online — but now it’s too late to ship gifts.

“Amazon was not delivering, so we had to come into the store,” said Divine Johnson of Scituate. “So thank God Kohl’s was open today.”

Johnson managed to find something for everyone.

“Everything is done, all my items are bought, and I am ready for Christmas,” Johnson said.

Others weren’t even planning to be out shopping today at all because they thought they had finished all their holiday shopping.

“Absolutely done, now I’m back,” said Ellen Callahan of Hope.

But she had a good reason.

“I’m ecstatic, I’m crying, I’m so excited,” Callahan said. “My son surprised us and came home from Hawaii yesterday. I mailed him all his presents, he already got them, so now he’s got to have something under the tree.”

Shoppers have some advice if you’re venturing out for an 11th-hour gift.

“Just come with your patience,” Ruzzo said. “Enjoy the day, and enjoy the holiday.”
