Former Attleboro Police Sgt. arraigned

54-year-old Richard Woodhead dodged questions after a brief arraignment in federal court in Providence Monday afternoon.
The 32-year veteran Attleboro Police Sergeant was arrested back in April and taken into federal custody at his house.
In a secret compartment police say they found a picture of a young girl in a bikini, a child’s school picture and a disc containing a child pornography video.
A not-guilty plea was entered at the arraignment on Monday, but Woodhead’s attorney told the magistrate that his client plans to plead guilty to one charge attempted receipt of child pornography.
The plea deal was entered into the court system last month.
Under that charge Woodhead would admit to using a computer to look at a minor under the age of 12 engaging in sexually explicit conduct.
Woodhead is charged with having more than 10 but less than 150 of those pornographic images in his possession.
The Attleboro Police Chief says Woodhead officially retired on April 14. He was approved to receive pension in a 3-1 vote.
The Dir. of the Retirement board told ABC 6 News that he had no comment at this time until case is decided. He added that the outcome will be reviewed by the Attleboro Retirement Board’s legal counsel.
