EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A 21-year-old bicyclist is dead after being struck by a vehicle in East Providence overnight.
East Providence Police identified the victim as Ethan Simpson, who lived with his parents on Forbes Street.
The incident happened at the intersection of Willett and Arrowhead Avenues in the riverside section at approximately at 10:45 p.m. Monday.
Police said neither alcohol or speed appear to be a factor in the crash at this time, but an investigation is underway.
No charges have been filed against the operator.
Simpson was found unresponsive, and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
"Ethan was an avid bike rider who tragically lost his life doing what he loved. Ethan was a dean’s list student at Rhode Island College and was adored by his family and will be greatly missed by them," said East Providence Police Captain Christopher Francesconi.
The investigation is ongoing.
