PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Local elected officials and President of Rhode Island College Frank Sánchez met Saturday to address neighbors’ concerns over the proposed Rhode Island College parking expansion.

RIC officials agreed to add increased fencing and shrubbery in the zone between the parking lot and adjacent neighborhood, as well as seal off Sheffield Avenue from student and staff vehicular traffic, according to a press release from the Rhode Island Senate office.

The meeting was attended by a handful of local elected officials, including state Senator Frank A. Ciccone, III, Providence City Councilwoman Jo-Ann Ryan, North Providence Town Council President Dino Autiello, North Providence Town Councilman Steven DiLorenzo.

Construction was halted this week after Ciccone and Ryan brought up a number of complaints from the community. The project will resume  Aug. 8, and RIC will post plans for the project on their website.

Sánchez also pledged to keep the community in the loop moving forward with a community meeting scheduled by Ciccone and Ryan.
