DIGHTON, Mass. (WLNE) — The Bristol County District Attorney’s office confirmed that one man was shot in Dighton.
State and local police are investigating a violent domestic break in at a Wheeler Street home that sent the suspect to the hospital with injuries.
Dighton police responded to the home around 6:40 p.m. Wednesday night after a woman reported her estranged brother was trying to gain entry into the house.
Her brother, identified as 46-year-old Ronald Whitmore, shattered the back sliding glass door with a rock. That was when his brother-in-law shot Whitmore in the stomach.
Officers found Whitmore in a backyard pool. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Neighbors tell ABC6 News the commotion was shocking.
Whitmore will be charged with operating to endanger, breaking and entering, and assault with a deadly weapon.
He is expected to appear in Taunton District Court Thursday. No charges are being filed against the homeowner at this time.
