PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Police are investigating Monday night’s shooting on Donelson Street that took the life of a 34-year-old man.

Mackenzie Irons was shot and killed just before 9 p.m. Monday, and police are still searching for the shooter.

Neighbors say 70 to 80 people were in the area of the home at the time of the shooting.

Irons died on the way to Rhode Island Hospital.

Police believe the shooting stemmed from an argument between two people who knew Irons and the shooter, and the argument apparently escalated to involve them.

Police say Irons was known to them and was involved in a 2004 incident in which he was shot at.

Anyone with information that can help lead police to the shooter is asked to call the Providence Police Department at 401-272-3121.
