State Police seek witnesses of violent road-rage incident

LINCOLN, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island State Police announced Tuesday evening they are seeking assistance from anyone who witnessed a road-rage incident involving several shots fired on Route 146.

State Police said an occupant of what is described as red Nissan SUV, potentially Rouge, Murano, or Pathfinder, was travelling north on Route 146.

The possible 2014 or later model SUV, fired several shots at another car in the area of the on-ramp to Interstate 295 a little after noon on Tuesday.

The suspect’s vehicle was last seen traveling north on Route 146, near the intersection of Route 146 North and Route 146A in North Smithfield, authorities said.

The victim’s car was identified as a blue 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe.

No injuries were reported.

State Police noted they believed the road-rage incident began in the area of Route 146 North near Twin River Road in Lincoln.

Anyone with information, or anyone who traveled in the area between 12:15 p.m. and 12:45 p.m. and saw these vehicles is encouraged to contact the Rhode Island State Police Lincoln Barracks at 401-444-1100.

The investigation is ongoing.
