GLOCESTER, R.I. (WLNE) — A 21-year-old man is facing felony DUI charges after crashing his motorcycle and seriously injuring himself and a 16-year-old.

According to the Glocester Police Department, David Jutras, of Foster, R.I., crashed his motorcycle on Chesnut Hill Road on Friday around 11:34 p.m.

When officers arrived on scene, it was noted Jutras and his 16-year-old passenger showed signs of intoxication, but police said Jutras refused to submit to a chemical test.

Even though both Justras and his passenger were wearing helmets, both sustained serious injuries, and both were transported to Rhode Island and Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence.

Due to the fact that the 21-year-old did not submit to a chemical test on the night of the crash, Glocester Police Department obtained a search warrant for Jutras’ blood.

Blood was taken from Justras on Sunday at Rhode Island Hospital; results showed Jutras was intoxicated at the time of the crash, with a .192 BAC, more than double the legal limit.

Police said the lab results also confirmed that Jutras had THC-Cannabinoids in his blood system.

Jutras is facing the following offenses:

  • DUI Serious Injury Resulting, felony count.
  • Driving so as to Endanger – Resulting in Personal Injury, felony count.
  • Operating on an Suspended License-1st Offense,
  • Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test

Jutras was arraigned before a bail commissioner at the Glocester Police headquarters after his arrest where bail was set at $25,000.00 with surety.

He is scheduled to appear in court in October.
