Bomb squad called to Coventry apartment, no threat found

COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) – Authorities were called to an apartment on Boston St. in Coventry Wednesday afternoon for a report of a suspicious device in a dumpster.
Central Coventry and Hopkins Hill Fire Chief Frank Brown confirmed they received a call for a suspicious package around 2 p.m. The State Fire Marshal Bomb Squad was called as a precaution.
Authorities pulled the object out of the dumpster and assessed it, determining it was not a threat.
“We evacuated the area, a 500-foot radius around everything, out of precaution,” said Chief Brown. “At the end of the day there was no threat, but we’d rather err on the side of caution.”
Hopkins Hill fire officials confirm everyone in the apartment was evacuated, but have since been able to return.
It is unknown at this time what the object is.
Police are speaking with the reporting party and looking more into the situation.
