One charged with DUI following fatal crash on Route 146

PROVIDENCE, R.I (WLNE) – One driver was charged with DUI, Death Resulting, after a fatal accident on Route 146 on Wednesday.

Just before 6:30 PM on Wednesday, troopers from the Lincoln Barracks, along with rescue crews from Providence responded to a crash on Route 146 at the Admiral Street exit ramp that involved a motorcycle and a car.

The investigation revealed that a Honda Sedan, operated from 31-year-old Providence resident, Ydaliza Pimentel was traveling on Route 146 South in the low-speed lane

A motorcycle, operated by Rudy Maldonado, age 31 of Woonsocket, was traveling behind Pimentel and entered in the right exit lane to exit at Admiral Street.

As  Maldonado was passing, Pimentel changed lanes and strick the motrocycle, causing it to lose control.

Maldonado was thrown from his motorcycle and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead some time later.

Pimentel was charged with Driving Under The Influence, Death Resulting, Driving to Endanger Resulting in Death, BAC unknown.

Pimentel is set to be arraigned in Providence District Court.
