The U.S Navy and Coast Guard have ended their search for a Sailor from Lincoln

LINCOLN, R.I. – (WLNE- TV) The U.S Navy and Coast Guard have ended their search for a Sailor from Lincoln after he went overboard earlier this week.
Fire Controlman Christopher Clavin, 23 was reported missing from a guided – missile cruiser that was off the coast of North Carolina Tuesday while performing training eighty miles off the coast of Cherry Point. The search has ended just after sunset Tuesday June 9th.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our shipmate, Petty Officer Chris Clavin. He was an important part of the team and a friend to so many on board,” said Capt. Derek Trinque who is the officer in command of USS Normandy.
With over seventy-six hours in an “exhaustive search” that covered over 6,300 miles, the Navy and Coast guard plan on holding a memorial service for their lost shipmate.
The family has requested their privacy at this time. An investigation has gone underway.
