Pawtucket-Based Foolproof Brewing Up for Sale

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — Foolproof Brewing Company is up for sale.
The Pawtucket-based brewery has been serving thirsty customers since December of 2012, and company founder and president, Nick Garrison, told ABC 6 he’s now looking for suitors to buy the business.
“It certainly wasn’t an easy decision or one made lightly,” said Garrison, “but it’s sort of a tough and challenging industry.”
He continued, “I’ve been doing it for 8 years now, and I’m just looking to move on and find the next chapter in my life.”
Foolproof is one of the top beer producers in the state of Rhode Island. An early entrant into the craft beer scene, the company has grown steadily over the years. Their Pawtucket facility has the capacity to produce over 10,000 barrels of beer each year.
“We do have a really strong presence in our home state,” said Garrison.
The company has seen success in recent months thanks to the launch of their latest beer, “Ocean State IPA.”
Foolproof sells mainly through distribution channels and their beers can be found in liquor stores across New England, the East Coast, and even in the U.K.
But craft beer’s explosion in popularity has made competition tough in recent years.
“It’s an unprecedented time for beer and the level of competition,” explained Garrison. “When we opened there were roughly 2000 breweries nation-wide, and we’re coming up on 8000 now so that’s really changed the landscape.”
While Garrison is looking to spend more time focusing on family and other aspects of life, he says hopes to remain involved with Foolproof in some capacity.
“I put my heart and soul into this business, as did our employees,” he said. “And I have a lot of pride in what we’ve accomplished over these past 7 years.”
