New Bedford Police investigating shooting involving teen

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) – Police are investigating the non-fatal shooting of a 17-year-old man that occurred near Kempton and Cook Streets in Providence Tuesday morning.
Tevin Cardozo-Dias, 21, of New Bedford was arrested after allegedly shooting the 17-year-old once in the foot around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Police recovered a 9 mm Glock handgun with several rounds of ammunition, as well as a small amount of cocaine, according to a press release.
Cardozo-Dias was charged with assault and battery by discharge of a firearm, unlawful carrying a loaded firearm without a license, discharging a weapon within 500 feet of a building, possession of a class B substance with intent to distribute, among other charges.
Cardozo-Dias was previously charged with unlawful carrying of a firearm without a license in 2012.
New Bedford Police called the investigation "very active," and said more details will become available as they develop.
