MARSHFIELD, Mass. (WLNE)- Danny Sheehan, an 8-year-old boy who had been battling brain cancer, passed away early on Sunday morning, according to a Facebook post.

Sheehan was first diagnosed with Pineoblastoma, aggressive brain cancer, in January 2017.

“Surreal and utter heartbreak can’t even begin to describe this feeling inside,” the Facebook post read.

His parents created a Facebook page for Danny’s fight against cancer in an effort to help other families going through similar fights.

The page reached many people, tallying over 17,000 followers.

A video showing Danny open Christmas gifts went viral after he was overwhelmed with excitement when he opened a new ‘Aquaman’ action figure.

‘Aquaman’ actor Jason Mamoa reached out and Facetimed with Danny after seeing the video.

Sheehan was also named an honorary Marshfield police officer in 2019.

The Danny Fund, a GoFundMe to support Danny’s fight with cancer, raised over $137,000.
