The inspiration behind the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, Pete Frates dies

PROVIDENCE, R.I (WLNE) – Former Boston College baseball star and inspiration behind the ALS ice bucket challenge passed away on Monday. 

Frates, A Beverly native was diagnosed with ALS in 2012. 

Since his diagnosis, Frates helped raise millions of dollars for research and awareness for the disease. 

Frates was 34-years-old.
