Gas leak forces Portsmouth businesses to evacuate

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WLNE) — A company doing paving work hit a gas line Monday morning in Portsmouth causing a gas leak.
Fire officials tell ABC6 News that the incident happened on East Main Road at approximately 10 a.m. Two businesses including a bank were closed and evacuated for an hour and a half. They were allowed back in at 11:30 a.m.
Police advised residents and drivers to avoid the area.
