Suspect on the run after stabbing on RIPTA bus

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Authorities confirm one person was taken to the hospital after a stabbing near the Rhode Island Convention Center Wednesday afternoon.

Commander Thomas Verdi confirmed the stabbing occurred on a RIPTA bus. Two passengers were fighting, when one stabbed the other.

Major David Lapatin of the Providence Police Department confirmed the stabbing occurred in the area of Empire and Fountain Streets.

One male victim was taken to the hospital, and the suspect is on the run. Authorities say the victim is in stable condition.

An ABC6 crew saw blood stains on the sidewalk when they arrived on scene.
