Allergy alert issued for Trader Joe’s Mochi Ice Cream

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – An allergy warning has been issued for a popular Trader Joe’s ice cream, authorities say.

According to the Department of Health, Mikawaya is recalling Mikawaya Brand Chocolate Mochi Ice Cream, advising consumers that it may contain peanuts.

The ice cream has been removed from all shelves nationwide.

People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product.

A release provided to ABC6 News read in part:

“Only products labeled with UPC code of 070934990609 and lot number LOT 090-17 are included in this recall. The UPC code can be found on the back of the box and the lot number is printed on the top enclosure.”

“The affected product is sold in a paperboard box, containing 9.1oz (258g) of 6-1.5oz (43g) pieces. The recall was initiated after a customer reported that a Chocolate Chocolate Mochi Ice Cream contained the presence of peanut butter. Mikawaya has not received any reports of illness or allergic reactions associated with this product.”
