PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Barrington teenager charged in a deadly Penn State hazing incident was arraigned Tuesday afternoon.
Lars Kenyon, 19, is one of the 18 fraternity members charged in the death of Timothy Piazza.
Piazza died at Penn State during a pledge event in February.
Kenyon is charged with the following:
- Recklessly endangering another person (14 counts for excessive alcohol hazing Spring 2017 Rush)
- Hazing (12 counts for Spring 2017 Rush)
- Furnishing alcohol to minors (12 counts for Spring 2017 Rush)
- Unlawful acts, relative to liquor (12 counts for Spring 2017 Rush)
Eight of his fraternity brothers of Beta Theta Pi are looking at involuntary manslaughter charges.
Fraternity members reportedly waited 12 hours to call police for help, after Tim Piazza was found unconscious on a couch following a night of excessive drinking during a pledge event.
Piazza reportedly fell, and was seriously injured, and was very intoxicated; he later died in the hospital.
Kenyon is a graduate of Barrington High School’s class of 2016 and played lacrosse while attending the school.
During a press conference on Friday, Piazza’s parents said their son’s death was easily preventable.
“This is the result of a feeling of entitlement, flagrant disobedience of the law and disregard for moral values,” said the victim’s father, Jim Piazza.
Kenyon was arraigned and released without having to pay bail. He is due back in court later this month.
