WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — The beat Woonsocket Police are walking this week just got a little bit longer.
12 officers left the station on foot Tuesday morning bound for Washington, D.C. Over the next few days they will take turns walking or running in four mile stretches all while helping to raise awareness and money for survivors of fallen police officers.
The journey, called COPSWALK, is an emotional one.
“It’s an honor to be honest with you. I’m standing on thisside of the earth instead of the other side,” said Officer Michael Martinsen.
This year, Woonsocket police are dedicating the walk to their brothers in blue from Massachusetts: Fallen police officer Ron Tarantino of Auburn and Trooper Thomas Clardy.
