A spa and salon on Fall River Avenue in Seekonk has abruptly closed, and customers say they were left hanging in the balance.

A sign on the door of Tranquil Waters says ‘Due to unforeseen circumstances, Tranquil Waters is permanently closed. Thank you for your patronage.’

But according to former customer Amy Doherty, that’s not the case.

Over the phone Doherty told ABC6 she just booked appointments with the owner, June Ferreira, last week.

When she found out the spa had closed, she called the owner to ask what would happen to her hundreds of dollars in gift cards.

"She told me that the banks had told her two weeks ago that she was closing. She was actively booking appointments and taking people’s money in the meantime."

Doherty’s not alone. Another customer says he bought a gift card for his pregnant wife just this weekend.

The Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs is starting to receive formal complaints.

One customer has filed directly with the Attorney General’s Office.

A neighbor says Ferreira moved out of her Seekonk home this week.

She has not returned our phone calls.

Customers who are looking to get their money back should visit the Attorney General’s website for more information.
