New Bedford man shot in abdomen, police investigating

NEW BEDFORD, M.A. – New Bedford Police are investigating two incidents involving firearms on Wednesday, after one man was shot in the abdomen.
New Bedford Police tell ABC6 News a 23-year-old New Bedford male was found with a gunshot wound when officers responded to Acushnet Ave around 3:00 p.m. The victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital.
"There was caution tape everywhere, there were cruisers everywhere," said one witness who wanted to remain anonymous. "I think they had just brought the kid to the hospital."
The witness also noted that the man was shot right next to a playground and a few houses down from several day cares.
Earlier in the afternoon around 1:00 p.m., authorities were dispatched to Chancery Street and Court Street for reports of shots fired.
When police arrived officers found two parked vehicles that had damage from possible gunfire.
No injuries were reported.
Police noted that it is unknown whether or not the two incidents are connected.
Investigations into both incidents are very active at this time.
