PROVIDENCE, R.I. – More than 21,000 Rhode Islanders will be losing Medicaid benefits by the end of the year due to those people no longer being eligible.

Beneficiaries who are no longer eligible for the benefits will be receiving notices.

One reason is because of a change in income level.

The state’s new computer system, UHIP, has not been accurately tracking those numbers.

Now that the issue has been realized, the state is looking to get thousands of people off of Medicaid by the end of the calendar year.

Resources are available for those still in need of low-cost health insurance.

Those losing coverage may be eligible for low-cost health insurance through HealthSource RI.

There is a 60-day Special Enrollment Period to apply.
