Police seize teddy bear stuffed with heroin

SPRINGFIELD, M.A. – A 22-year-old Springfield man has been arrested after a police raid led to the seizure of a large amount of cocaine, heroin, a fully loaded handgun, and  ammunition, police say.

After a lengthy investigation, police arrested Joshua M. Santiago at his residence on Fort Pleasant Avenue around 6:05 a.m.

Officials say a raid was conducted by the Hampden County Narcotics Task Force where Santiago was found in bed. He was handcuffed without incident.

Santiago was found sharing his bed with a large quantity of Heroin and a loaded .380 handgun.

Police also located a child’s teddy bear that contained 750 bags of heroin.

Officers also seized the following in their search:

  • 27 bags of Cocaine
  • Another 68 grams of Cocaine
  • $784.00 in cash
  • .380 handgun fully loaded along with 37 rounds of ammo (the serial number on the gun was obliterated)
  • Scales and drug paraphernalia.

Santiago was charged with the following offenses:

  • Trafficking in Cocaine
  • Trafficking in Heroin
  • Possession of Firearm
  • Possession of Firearm During a felony
  • Possession of Ammo
  • Possession Of Firearm With Obliterated Serial Number)
