PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The State of Rhode Island has sent duplicate income-tax refund checks to the tune of around $364,000 to approximately 500 people, according to the Department of Revenue.
The Department of Revenue confirmed that those checks were printed and mailed on the same day.
ABC6 News was told that the problem was not a “software glitch,” but the result of “human error.”
The Department of Revenue tells ABC6 that anyone who received the duplicate check should cash it and mail it to the DOR with a “note of explanation.”
The department also says that it is “not possible for a recipient to cash both checks” because of an “automatic fraud detection system.”
If you received a duplicate check, you can mail it back to the following address:
RI Division of Taxation
Personal Income Tax Section
Attn: Duplicate Checks
One Capitol Hill
Providence, R.I. 02908
