Three more samples of West Nile virus found in Rhode Island

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management announced Thursday that three more mosquito samples tested positive for West Nile Virus in the state.

Two were found in East Providence and one in Warren. This brings the number of positive samples in the state this summer to four.

So far no mosquitos have tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE). The DEM says West Nile is more prevalent than EEE, and these findings are not unexpected. West Nile is expected to continue until the first hard frost.

The DEM recommends taking steps to protect yourself and eliminate mosquito breeding grounds, like stagnant water.
