UPDATE: Fire heavily damages home in East Providence

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A home has been deemed a total loss after a fire broke out on Sutton Avenue in East Providence Thursday morning.

Officials say the fire started in the basement around 11:30 a.m., and spread throughout the home.

One man was in the backyard and saw smoke pouring out of the home. He got out safely.

The East Providence Fire Department says the cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.

No injuries were reported.
