North Kingstown family asking for help in finding driver who hit vehicle parked in driveway

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) – A family in North Kingstown is asking for the public’s help in finding the driver who struck one of their vehicles in their driveway overnight on Wednesday and then took off, leaving the vehicle with serious damage.

“I heard a loud crash, (it) sounded like somebody backed up and then sped up and took off,” said Holly Quinn of Clearview Drive. “I’d never heard anything like that ever. Ever. I mean, it rattled me out of bed. The house shook.”

Quinn has lived in the North Kingstown neighborhood with her family for close to 30 years. On Wednesday around 2:30 a.m., they awoke to a crash, looked out their windows, and saw something they’d never seen on their road before.

“I realized that was my son’s car, that was actually parked behind me in our driveway, was now up on our front lawn.”

The Honda sustained serious damage, and the family thinks it may be totaled. The driver responsible fled the scene.

“I’m sure the person who did it was probably drunk because our road is such a cut-through for people that live locally around here, that I’m thinking he must live around here somewhere, or they, whomever…must live close by,” said Quinn.

The Honda belonged to Quinn’s son, who’s entering his senior year. They just purchased it for him last month.

“We just got it for him in July. It’s not even…it’s about four weeks old. It’s a bummer. It’s a bummer for a kid, you know. It’s his senior year and he was starting it, excited to have it and had his senior parking pass…he was ready to go and now this.”

According to Quinn, this isn’t the first time something like this has happened.

“I heard from two neighbors that one happened down the street at another pole where somebody hit, struck a pole. That was about a month and a half ago. Struck their mailbox then the pole, missed their car by inches in their driveway. Back in November (a neighbor’s) car was hit directly head-on, and the person tried to leave the scene and when they took her out of her car, she couldn’t even stand up she was so drunk, so, little did I know this was maybe starting to become an epidemic.”

She said petitions have been made in the past to get a speedbump installed or a stop sign on that street, but nothing came of it. She hopes this hit and run puts the issue on people’s radars again, and that people in the area will keep their eyes peeled for the driver responsible.

“Just if people could keep their eyes out, you know, just to see if they see anything, a truck with major damage. It’s gotta have major damage for the damage it caused to this truck, so, and hopefully, we find them. I wish you no harm but I wish you no good. The least you could have done was stopped.”

The family believes the vehicle is a 2011-2015 Ford F150 in the color orange or red. Anyone with information is urged to contact North Kingstown Police.
