PC Friars Dominate Brown in Rivalry Game at the Dunk

Providence junior Emmitt Holt (Webster, N.Y.) scored 20 points and added five rebounds and five assists to lead Providence (7-2) to a 95-57 victory over Brown (5-5) in a non-conference contest at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center on Tuesday evening.

PC junior Rodney Bullock (Hampton, Va.), the reigning Big East Player of the Week, added 16 points and eight rebounds while junior Jalen Lindsey (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) notched 16 points and three rebounds in the victory for the Friars.

Brown was paced by sophomore Obi Okolle (Ajax, Ontario) with 16 points and four rebounds while sophomore Travis Fuller (Encinitas, Calif.) had 10 points in the setback for the Bears.

Providence raced out to the early lead and grabbed its first double-digit advantage when a layup by Bullock put the Friars up 14-3 with 14:19 left in the first half. The Friars extended the lead to 20-3 on a three-pointer by Lindsey with 13:11 left in the stanza, forcing a timeout by Brown. PC pushed the lead to as many as 32 points on a free throw from sophomore Drew Edwards (Perry Hall, Md.) with :55 left on the clock to take a 50-18 advantage heading into the locker room at halftime. Holt had 16 first half points for the Friars while PC shot an outstanding 65.6% (21-of-32) from the field in the stanza.

The Friars took their largest lead of the game on a three-pointer by sophomore Isaiah Jackson (Gainesville, Fla.), putting the team up 68-30 with 13:51 remaining in the contest. PC built on the lead throughout the second half and led 93-53 on a three-pointer by sophomore Ricky Council (Durham, N.C.) with 2:00 left. The Friars then cruised to the 95-55 victory.

PC shot 61.7% (37-of-60) from the field, including 51.9% (14-of-27) from behind the three-point stripe and 50.0% (7-of-14) from the free throw line while Brown shot 37.3% (19-of-51) from the field, 17.6% (3-of-17) from the three-point line and 59.3% (16-of-27) from the free throw line.

In upcoming action, Providence will host UMass in a non-conference contest at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 12:00 p.m.
