Lincoln hotel evacuated after landscaping crews hit gas line

LINCOLN, R.I. (WLNE) – A Residence Inn on George Washington Highway in Lincoln was briefly evacuated after a gas main was broken Monday afternoon.

Sergeant Walter Ptaszek of the Lincoln Police Department told ABC6 crews at the scene that a landscaping company hit a gas meter with a lawnmower, causing the line to dislodge.

The fire alarm was pulled and the hotel was evacuated as the gas was shut off.

No injuries were reported.

At 5:22 p.m., ABC6 crews saw the hotel guests being allowed back into the building.
