PC Friars Run Past St. Francis in 2nd Round of Emerald Coast Classic at the Dunk

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men’s basketball team held the lead from start to finish against St. Francis Brooklyn, defeating the Terriers 64-48 in the second round of the Emerald Classic at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center on Monday night.
Junior Rodney Bullock (Hampton, Va.) concluded the game with a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Kalif Young (Vaughan, Ontario) registered a career-high 16 points in the contest, with 12 coming in the first half. With the win, Providence improves to 3-1 while St. Francis Brooklyn falls to 0-3.
Young scored seven of the Friars’ first nine points to open the game. Providence continued to increase its advantage and built up a 22-8 lead midway through the first half. The Friars concluded the opening frame with a 38-16 lead behind 54-percent shooting from the field (13-for-24), including 3-for-5 from behind the arc, and 20 points in the paint. St. Francis Brooklyn was held to just 17-percent shooting (4-for-24).
At the half, Young led all scorers with 12 points. Bullock also reached double-figures for PC, with 11 points while chipping in seven rebounds.
The Friars continued to roll in the second half as their lead reached 24 at the beginning of the stanza. Providence shot 44-percent (11-for-25) in the period. The Terriers improved their shooting from the first, at 39-percent on 14-of-36, but the Friars’ lead was never in doubt.
For the game, Providence outrebounded St. Francis Brooklyn, 43-31. In addition to Bullock’s 12 boards, junior Jalen Lindsey (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) added eight rebounds. Junior Kyron Cartwright (Compton, Calif.) dished out nine assists on the night to go along with six second-half points. Sophomore Drew Edwards (Perry Hall, Md.) saw his first action of the season, recording four points off the bench.
Yunus Hopkinson led the Terriers with 12 points and seven rebounds.
The Friars return to action on Friday, November 25 when they play the third game of the Emerald Coast Classic versus Memphis in Destin, Florida at 9:30 p.m. ET, televised on the CBS Sports Network.
