PAWTUCKET, R.I. — Costumes from Festival Ballet Providence’s (FBP) Nutcracker production stolen from a Pawtucket warehouse have been found.
Authorities say the costumes were recovered on Tuesday after detectives were contacted by a local attorney.
The attorney claimed his client had turned the costumes over to him, and he was ready to surrender them to police.
The items were discovered missing back in November as the company made its final preparations for the December production, which has been performed for almost 40 years.
Among the items missing is the iconic costume and mask for The Nutcracker, and hand-made tutus, including one of three tutus for the Sugar Plum Fairy, the ballet’s principal character.
Djuric says each one of the soloist and principal tutus costs upwards of $600. Replacement costs for custom crafted headpieces like The Nutcracker mask are estimated at more than $2,000.
Many of the stolen costumes were embellished with Swarovski crystals.
The costumes have been stored in the same location for more than ten years and the company believed the space to be secure.
Pawtucket police are investigating, and are seeking information on the individual responsible.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Pawtucket Police Department tip line at (401) 727-9100.
