Noose discovered at local youth organization

PROVIDENCE- A Providence youth organization shocked, after discovering this noose hanging in their Elmwood Avenue office Monday morning. Members of the Providence Youth Student Movement or PrYSM believe it was placed their between Sunday afternoon and Monday morning.
The noose is not the only disturbing finding, the organizations says there were knives stabbed into a table nearby, and say it appeared that someone had rifled through the place, pulling out drawers and moving things around. Providence NAACP President Jim Vincent is familiar with the group, which is dedicated to helping Southeastern Asian youth and queer youth of color.

"There are unique issues Southeast Asian youth go through and PrYSM is a safe harbor for those youth and they do a tremendous job. They didn’t deserve anything like that, not that anybody does,"says Vincent.

Vincent says he takes this threat very seriously.

"It represents that we want to put fear in you, we don’t like you, we may harm you," he says.

PrYSM is calling this a hate crime, but say they never considered calling the police. They declined an on camera interview but did release a statement, which says in part…
"Rather than engaged local law enforcement.. Who pose a consistent threat to our safety and dignity…we are in the process of registering this incident with the Southern Poverty Law Center."
