CHATHAM, MASS. — A fisherman was rescued from a Chatham Sandbar after his 20-foot boat capsized Tuesday.
The Coast Guard responded to the call around 4 p.m.
The Harbormaster discovered a lone man on the sandbar. However, because of the shallow water, the Coast Guard officers could not initially reach the fisherman.
A helicopter was called in to hoist the man to safety.
“There was an outstanding mutual response by both the Chatham Harbormaster and Coast Guard units working together to rescue this man,” said Lt. Jarrod Pomajzl; Sector Southeastern New England.
That area near the Chatham Bar can be dangerous and fishermen are urged to take extreme caution while navigating those waters.
The boat is still adrift.
