PC Goaltender Hayden Hawkey Named Hockey East Player of the Week

PC news release…

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – It was announced on Monday (Dec. 12) that Providence College sophomore goaltender Hayden Hawkey (Parker, Colo.) was named the Hockey East’s Defensive Player of the Week.

Hawkey paced the Friars to a two-game sweep at RIT this past weekend after stopping 65-of-67 shots on goal over the two games.  The sophomore posted a 1.00 goals-against average and .970 save percentage last weekend and has registered a 3-1-1 record, 1.58 goals-against average and .944 save percentage over his last five outings.

The weekly honor was the first for Hawkey and the first for the Friars in 2016-17.  It was the first Defensive Player of the Week recognition for the Friars since Nick Ellis earned the accolade on March 14, 2016 after last season’s Hockey East Quarterfinal round.

The Friars enter the winter break at 7-6-3 overall and will return to action on Dec. 30 as they host No. 2 Denver for a pair at Schneider Arena.
