PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — A coyote started a chain reaction that lead to three accidents in Portsmouth.

Firefighters say a car struck the animal on West Main Road Tuesday morning.

However, a short time later another crash occurred nearby. Then, a third happened in the traffic jam created by the first two accidents on Route 24 south.

In all, 10 cars were involved.

Several people were taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
