East Providence police searching for stabbing suspect

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. — There is an active arrest warrant for 29-year-old James Stevens of Providence for assault with intent to commit murder.

Police say he stabbed 24-year-old Jasper Williams outside of his Lyons Avenue home on Sunday.

Williams is now on life support.

Investigators are not commenting on a motive, but say the men did know each other.

The victim’s mother, Alecia Williams, is now preparing for the worst.

Through her tears, she made a plea for James Stevens to do the right thing and turn himself in.

“It hurts that my son is gone and that his son won’t see him and his friends and family won’t see him any more, but we all forgive you James. Please turn yourself in to East Providence police,” said Alecia Williams.

Stevens is believed to be driving a white 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Rhode Island license plate registration number: JH 259.
