NEW BEDFORD, MASS. — A New Bedford woman is being held without bail after hitting a Dartmouth police officer with her car and then fleeing the scene Wednesday night.

Officers responded to Jones Park around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night to perform a well-being check fore reports of an unconscious woman in a car.

Upon arrival authorities found 33-year-old Alanna Baylies slumped over the steering wheel.

However, as officers opened the door to check on her,  Baylies came to, and placed the car in reverse; hitting the officer with her car door and throwing him to the ground.

The 33-year-old then took off and crashed her car near Route 18. She also attempted to run away before she was arrested.

The officer was taken to the hospital but has since been released.
