WARWICK, R.I. — Police in Rhode Island were out in full force cracking down on drunk driving Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

The night before Thanksgiving is known as one of the biggest for impaired driving.

A task force of officers from around the state were out from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. looking for drunk drivers.

During this wave, police arrested 10 people suspected of driving under the influence. In addition to the suspected impaired drivers, police also arrested 8 drivers for driving with a suspended license and one driver for possession of narcotics.

Police also issued 74 speeding violations as well as 13 other violations.

A Breath Alcohol Testing Mobile Unit was set up at the Warwick Mall where officers processed 6 suspected impaired drivers.

Officials say they will continue to patrol the streets throughout the weekend to ensure the roadways are safe and enjoyable for all traveling during the holiday season.
