Construction company working Providence Viaduct project sues the state

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The construction company working on the Providence Viaduct project is now suing the state for breach of contract.

In a lawsuit obtained by ABC6 News, Manafort Brothers Construction Company is seeking nearly 4 million dollars from Rhode Island.

The company says it was forced to do extra work when the project fell over a year behind schedule.

The Providence Journal reports that in a countersuit filed by the state, they are also being sued by the Providence Place Mall, which is near the site.

The repairs on the 95 South bridge began in 2013.

The project is not expected to be complete until March.
