New Bedford is cracking down on illegal ATV use, just weeks after a police officer was run down by one.
Under the new ordinance, police will be able to impose fines of up to $300 and confiscate the recreational vehicles for dangerous use in city neighborhoods.
The regulation comes after that incident on Halloween where an officer was run down. Nearly a dozen reckless bikers are now facing charges.
The new ordinance would go into effect in the new year.
