PROVIDENCE, R. I. – Seven Providence families searching for a place to live a week before Thanksgiving after their home went up in flames.

Fire crews say the fire on Carter Street broke out around 12:15 p.m. on Friday, and that everyone was able to get out safely.

The Red Cross said in a statement that they are providing comfort kits containing personal items a resident might not have been able to gather in the rush to escape the fire, as well as a recovery envelope including helpful information for families recovering from a fire.

The cause is still under investigation, but the fire does appear to be accidental.
