PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ Wintertime farmers markets are selling Rhode Island-grown turkeys, apples, cider, potatoes and squash as they open inside old mills and other venues around the state.
The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management says that this weekend marks the opening of many cold-season farmers markets.
Saturday morning markets are happening in Pawtucket, Bristol, Middletown, North Kingstown and Peace Dale. Some are year-round. Others last until late April, when summertime markets prepare to open.
There’s also a market on select Sundays in Warren and another one on Tuesday afternoons in Woonsocket.
The environmental management agency is promoting the markets through its “Get Fresh. Buy Local” campaign.
