Final traffic pattern change on 95 pushed back a day

The final lane shift on 95 South through Providence is being postponed.
Rain has delayed the change from Wednesday until Thursday. Then, all three lanes will move onto the new bridge and the split will be gone.
"We’ll be eliminating all of the cones that have been requiring traffic to be divided,” says RIDOT Director Peter Alviti.
The bridge replacement project has been in the works for a month.
It started off on the wrong foot when the initial traffic change caused extreme delays and nearly a dozen car accidents.
But Alviti says it had to be done.
"There were cracks found in that bridge. So for the southbound lanes, those deficiencies have been corrected. A new bridge is in place free of defects."
Officials say in about a year they’ll hit the repeat button and do it all over again – this time on the northbound side.
